Prayer, Hindu
Prayer permeates Hindu life, but it is not as detached and formal as in the lives of Muslims. Great merit (punya) is secured from saying prayers of which many were derived from the vedic hymns. Hindu prayer is highly devotional, especially in bhakti often emerging into a mantra. A.G.H.
