Hitchcock, Ethan Allen
Hitchcock, Ethan Allen (1798-1870), American general and literary
historian, who was among the first in modern times to perceive the spiritualistic
aspect of alchemy as a process of spiritual
development engaged in by the alchemist which synthesizes mysticism
and esoteric alchemy. He wrote Remarks on Alchemy and Alchemists,
and Swedenborg, a Hermetic Philosopher, both were significant works.
